Health Tradition Health Plan to be purchased by WEA Insurance Corporation

Arrangement provides expanded Mayo Clinic Health System access in southwest Wisconsin

Leadership at Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare announced the transfer of ownership of Health Tradition Health Plan (HTHP) to WEA Insurance Corporation for the provision of narrow-network commercial plans to area employers, both large and small, as well to provide coverage for 65Plus members. This is good news for patients and employers in this region as it creates another choice for people who wish to receive their care at Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Wisconsin.

In late fall 2017, WEA Insurance Corporation reached out to Mayo Clinic Health System after the announcement was made that HTHP would be winding down, with the intent to explore the possibility of a mutually agreeable arrangement. This agreement has now been reached, with the transition occurring over the summer and final closing occurring before the end of the year. The Health Tradition name will be retained as a known and familiar brand to patients and employers.

Plans are in place to ensure a smooth transition of care for employer groups, members and employees.

WEA Insurance Corporation has been an excellent partner with Mayo Clinic Health System in the past, providing health plans for municipal and government employees. It has extensive experience in providing high-quality health plans and excellent service to its members.
