Mayo Clinic Health System one of top 15 systems nationally

Truven Health Analytics®, part of IBM Watson HealthTM, again named the Mayo Clinic Foundation as one of the 15 top health systems in the country. The recognition applies to Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the 24 Mayo Clinic Health System locations, most of which are in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

This year’s study evaluated 337 health systems and 2,924 hospitals to identify the 15 health systems with the highest overall achievement on a balanced scorecard. The study drew from three large public databases to provide an objective measure of health system performance overall.

This is the fourth consecutive year Mayo Clinic Health System has been among the top 15 health systems.

These top systems, as a group, have:

  • An average 17.5 percent shorter wait times in the emergency department
  • Higher survival rates, with 13.4 percent fewer in-hospital deaths
  • 8.5 percent fewer complications
  • Shorter hospital stays, 10.2 percent fewer days

Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and the 100 Top Hospitals® program at Truven Health Analytics noted, “The leaders of these health systems are demonstrating the power of aligning best practices across multiple hospitals to achieve greater levels of efficiency while delivering higher overall standards of care.”

Five health systems were selected from each size category. They represent the top quintile of health systems.
